Alyn McCauley and Gary Roberts Pictures
A special section dedicated to my two other favourite players. Although McCauley isn't here anymore, we wish him the best of luck in San Jose. Thank you, to one of the classiest guys currently in the NHL.

Alyn McCauley -- Sportsmanlike
This picture was taken two days after the Carolina Hurricanes beat the Leafs in the Conference Finals. Alyn McCauley is one of my favourite players. He also helps out in the community a lot and supports many charities. One charity he is seriously involved in is the 'Ivory Dad Walk.' He participated in the walk last year at the Toronto Zoo.

"I'm not frustrated at anyone but myself. I like to play a certain way, and I just seem to be half a step from my grasp." -- Alyn McCauley
Alyn McCauley -- Great Defensive Forward
Alyn McCauley is an excellent defensive forward and does an amazing job of killing penalties. He and Garry Valk (Who will not return) made a great duo. His defensive abilities got him a number of awards such as:
  • Canadian Junior Hockey Player of the Year (1996 - 97)
  • The William Hanley Trophy -- OHL's Most Gentlemanly Player (1996 - 97)
  • Red Tilson Trophy -- OHL's Most Outstanding Player (1997) and
  • Red Tilson Trophy -- OHL's Most Outstanding Player (1996)
He also represented Canada at the World Junior's and won gold in 1996 and 1997. He recorded five points in each of the tournaments.

"Alyn and his sister would get into the odd tussle every now and again. I remember Alyn slid her down the stairs in a laundry basket once. She was crying and he was begging her not to tell. He said : Don't tell mom. You can hit me if you want." -- Donna McCauley
  • Alyn McCauley -- Clutch Guy
After coming off a season in which he was highly criticized, he proved the critics wrong by playing in all 82 games and during the 2001-2002 playoffs he was a big reason why the Leafs made it as far as they did. In last season's playoffs, Alyn was among the league's top scorers. In 20 games played he went 5-10-15. He was a +3, with four penalty minutes, one powerplay goal and two game winning goals. He was one point away from tying the number of points he had generated all season.

"It's not a Picasso, I'll tell you that. Actually, maybe it is a Picasso, with paint all over the place. Maybe the paint is smeared right now but maybe it'll be something nice in the end. This could be the opportunity to make something nice." -- Alyn McCauley talking about his career
    Gary Roberts -- Fitness Freak
Gary Roberts is another one of my favourite players. His 'fitness freak' attitude is what really got Bryan McCabe back into shape. He was forced to sit out the 1996-97 season because of serious neck and shoulder injuries. But he did not loose hope. His dedication and perseverance silenced the critics as he made a remarkable comeback. For his efforts, he was rewarded with the NHL's Bill Masterton Trophy for perseverance and dedication to hockey.

"Hey, playoff hockey, you're trying to be intense and you're trying to battle them as hard as they are battling you, and you get in situations where you pass the line sometimes and I understand that. We have to do better tomorrow night. Just take the good with the bad." -- Gary Roberts
    Gary Roberts - True Leader
He is a true leader to the whole team and filled in when Mats went down during the playoffs. Gary is one of the few veterans on the Leafs that has actually won a Stanley Cup. He set a great example for the younger players on the team, and anyone who has seen Gary Roberts knows that he does not mess around. He loves the game and plays with heart, grit, and determination.

"Roberts definitely wears his heart on his sleeve, always has, always will... throughout this season, Roberts has been a steady contributor. He's scored, he's hit, he's dug the puck out of corners to set up his mates, he's stood in front of the net, he's led and he's inspired." -- John Iaboni mapleleafs.com writer
Gary Roberts -- Crashes the Net
Gary Roberts loves to camp out right in front of the opposing goalie, which is why he's so successful. When the defenseman try to get him out, they don't stand a chance. We saw Gary at his best this year when he did an outstanding job of getting in the opposing goalie's face, and was well rewarded. During the playoffs, Gary went 7-12-19 in 19 games played. He was a +6, with 56 penalty minutes, three power play goals, and one game winning goal.

"I really believe I can be better, I'm really trying to turn it around, like every other guy on the team." -- Gary Roberts
Gary Roberts -- Physical Clutch Forward
When the Leafs looked like they were done, Gary Roberts came in and showed the critics. Gary's history says a lot, he has picked up a number of accolades in his successful career:
  • NHL's Bill Masterton Trophy -- perseverance and dedication(1996)
  • Represented The Calgary Flames at the NHL All-Star Game (1993-94)
  • Represented The Calgary Flames at the NHL All-Star game (1992-93)
  • Named to Second OHL All-Star Team (1985-86)
  • Named to Second OHL All-Star Team (1984-85)
Gary has represented Canada at the World Juniors in 1986 and won a silver medal with Leaf teammate, Shayne Corson. In seven tournament games he collected nine points.

"Gary is my best friend. It's great that I'm going to be back playing with him. I think it's important to know though that I'm not coming here just because my buddy is playing here. I'm coming here to win another Cup."
-- Joe Nieuwendyk on best bud Gary Roberts
